Many redditors and enthusiasts of all things Helix have been visiting Reddit today to see what all the buzz is on this new type of mattress. Reddit user “xtremelypony” brought the news to us about a forum called Helix Mattress Reviews. It’s kind of a feedback site about memory foam mattresses. It appears that there are quite a few posters who are upset with their current sleep situation, and are talking about how their sleepwear has left them puffy, uncomfortable, or even worse, no sleep at all. They post up their reviews of various brands and models and then discuss what they think about these mattresses.
Many of the posts are positive, but some are quite negative. It appears that the biggest complaint is that many people are upset with the puffy mattress, or feeling that they did not get enough support. Many of the posters claim that their product is the best around, or claim it is better than the Royal Pedic, Sensus, and other similar mattresses. One poster even suggests getting a second opinion from an actual customer:
Redditors were quick to express their dissatisfaction with the Lifetime Warrantee that many of the brands offer. Some mattresses do not offer a lifetime warranty, as they are lower in quality and are not very long lasting. Mattresses like the original Royal Pedic and Visco Elastic mattress are covered by a 10 year limited warranties. One of the biggest complaints is that the companies only offer the lifetime warranty when purchasing the product online, where it is obvious at a glance what the warranty is for. One redditor sums it up nicely:
“Just went to bed after owning a Helix Memory Foam – Exclusive, now its’ really late and I can’t fall asleep. There is a small zit right on the very top left of my head. The sheet’s completely full right behind it. My sleep is being interrupted by this little pimple. What’s the deal, these mattresses are supposed to make me sleep all night without moving? I guess not.”
Visco Elastic layers are another issue. They have a very soft feel to them and can make a person wake up sometimes, especially if the layer gets turned down too low. Redditors often claim that the Visco Elastic layer does nothing to help them get a good night’s sleep and some people claim that it is a nuisance and causes them problems. A redditor sums it up nicely when he states: “They only allow you to order them online, and you have to pay for shipping both ways…Whew. I’m done dealing with Visco Elastic next time.”
Choosing a mattress brand is important but is also highly influenced by what kind of mattress you need in the first place: a traditional coil spring, a memory foam or a foam-core. If you have a puffy problem in that area be careful not to go with a cheap plastic mattress cover that does not provide adequate core support foam for you to sleep on comfortably. The Helix thread count should also be considered.
It seems that the main issues come up as a result of the design of the product as opposed to it’s construction. In the case of the Redditors, it seems that it is mainly due to the fact that they did not choose the best comfort layer. You should know that the best comfort layer in a mattress will be there whether the core is made out of foam or just cotton. It will be there because it will provide you the most amount of support for you body. It will keep your body as well as your joints and muscles from experiencing pain while sleeping.
Unfortunately, for the people who wanted the best memory foam or even the best cotton layers, they did not look into this core issue. As a result, their product ends up being one that does nothing to relieve their puffy mattresses. A good rule of thumb is to only purchase those models that have two layers of core. Two layers are more than enough to keep your body comfortable and your back happy.
